Will My Insurance Pay For That?

If you have ever had the experience of shopping for a new car, you quickly come to the realization that it can be quite exciting. Sitting in the car and playing with all the new-fangled equipment, kicking the tires and taking a test drive will eventually allow us to purchase the car best fitted for our wants and needs.

Part of the reality of car ownership, besides the cost, is insuring your new pride and joy against accident, damage and theft. Most people take great pride in their new car by changing the oil, rotating the tires and maintaining it inside and out with that showroom-like finish. None of us would expect our insurance to pay for this general upkeep. It is pretty much a given that those costs belong to us and that insurance is there for that catastrophic claim that otherwise would be difficult for one to cover out of pocket.

When it comes to health, we are also faced with similar circumstances and again the role of your insurance is to provide coverage for those events that come unexpectedly. Throwing out your back while landscaping or straining your neck while exercising will often require you to see your chiropractor and insurance is set up to cover most of your costs. Once out of crisis, we can then show you ways to keep from recreating this problem in the future. This prevention of re-injury is considered good general upkeep.

General upkeep of our health is better viewed as our responsibility. Once we understand that overall health is under our control, we can make better choices to live long, healthy and productive lives. Eating right and exercising are a couple of important habits to develop along with a properly-functioning nervous system. We wouldn’t expect our health insurance to pay our grocery bill or gym membership. Similarly, the cost of wellness or preventative chiropractic is often our responsibility, too. If we take pride in our bodies, like we do our new cars, they are guaranteed to last (barring some unforeseen accident). Unlike your new car that you can trade in after a few years for the newest model, your body has to last a lifetime… wear it with pride.
